Objectives

This interdisciplinary program combines courses in intellectual property law and computer technology. The aim of the course is to train lawyers in intellectual property law (industrial property law, contracts, technology transfer and competition law) and digital law, with specific technical skills in computer science and artificial intelligence, particularly original in a legal training context.
The aim is to provide students with the theoretical and practical training they need to master the knowledge required for:

  1. Protection of intellectual creations
    • protection of works
    • acquisition of industrial property rights: substantive law and procedures (national, European, Community and international) for obtaining patents, designs and distinctive signs
  2. Valuation
    • defending rights
    • exploitation of rights: contracts, technology transfers, taxation of intellectual property
    • French and EU competition law, abuse of dominant position
  3. Basic computer programming skills
    • data processing/storage tools
    • Python programming
    • supervised and unsupervised learning
    • machine learning
    • deep Learning

This training enables lawyers to become specialists in intellectual property at regional, national, European and international levels, with particular expertise in the digital field. They will be able to work as:

  • Corporate lawyers, attorneys and magistrates practicing in this field
  • Officials from national, regional and international offices
  • Lawyer in industrial property consulting firms

Recruitment criteria

Admission to this course is by application.

Admission to M1:

It requires a sound legal culture and mastery of the main areas of private law (civil law, commercial law, criminal law, civil and criminal proceedings, etc.) or public law (administrative law, public liberties, public business law, etc.) required for access to the various legal professions (magistrate, lawyer, etc.).
A knowledge of programming, even if self-taught, and a motivation to be trained in computer techniques are substantial assets. A very good level of English (B2) is required.

Admission to M2:

This course is open only to students who have completed an M1 in "Private Law", "European Law", "International Law", "Comparative Law", "Business Law" or "Intellectual Property" (or equivalent), as well as to students who have completed an M1 in Political Science. Students must have completed the following subjects (or equivalent) during their studies: law of obligations, property law, private international law, European Union law, and knowledge of French and European institutions.
In addition, as this is a cross-disciplinary course, with a good number of hours devoted to data science, in-depth knowledge of IT is required: advanced knowledge of IT tools, programming in a computer language (Python, in particular).
A good knowledge of English (B2 minimum) is required. An initial introduction to intellectual property law and/or experience of studying abroad would be an asset.
Foreign students, whether or not they are nationals of the European Union, must meet conditions equivalent to those listed above, and provide proof of a C1 level in French.

  • Exemption from attendance (by this we mean that the student is exempt from attendance at classes and/or sporadically (TD/TP) depending on the constraints linked to certain activities, performances, competitions, obligations linked to mandates, convocations, etc.).
  • Authorization to study over two years: CEIPI's General Manager may authorize students to study over two years, on the recommendation of the degree coordinator and on production of supporting documents corresponding to the special regime.
