Summer’ize your IP!

The 2026 edition will take place in Strasbourg from 29 June to 10 July 2026.

Overview

Unique in Europe and in the world, this Summer School offers an intensive course of theoretical and practical training for both scientific and legal backgrounds. Participants will also be able to build on the knowledge acquired during the various workshops.

Prior to the start of the Summer School, participants will have access to pre-recorded lectures. These dynamic short videos aim to convey to participants the general principles and core concepts of intellectual property in Europe.

Public concerned

The programme is open to IP professionals, researchers, lawyers, attorneys, legal European professionals not specialized in IP or non-European IP experts.

Prerequisites

The course is open to professionals in the field of intellectual property law, but also to researchers as well as to European and non-European lawyers, whether or not specialised in IP law. As the whole course is taught in English, a good command of the language is required. Students from all over the world are welcome to register.

Teaching objectives

The Summer School aims at providing a general overview of the Patent System within the European Union’s legal framework, as well as practical solutions regarding patent enforcement, licensing and litigation in Europe. The course is addressed especially to students and practitioners willing to gain a solid background in European and international patent law.

Total duration of the course: 64 hours, including:

  • 59 hours of face-to-face classes
  • 5 hours of pre-recorded videos (available from 15 June 2026)

Teaching methods and language of the training

Presentations, discussions and exchange of experiences, case studies, workshops and pre-recorded videos.

The training is in English.

Nature and certification of training

This training constitutes an adaptation and skills development action. A certificate of attendance is issued at the end of the training.

A satisfaction survey will be sent to participants at the end of the training to measure their satisfaction.

Course materials

The speakers’ presentations and other documents will be available online on the Moodle platform.

Location and Delivery Mode

The on-site courses will take place in Strasbourg (Batiment Le Cardo, 7 rue de l’Écarlate 67000, Strasbourg).

The pre-recorded courses will be available via the University of Strasbourg pedagogical platform (Moodle).

Pedagogical and Technical Support

  • Educational support for participants is provided by each instructor or instructor for the portion that applies to them.
  • The educational tools and resources related to the training are made available to each participant via the Moodle educational platform. Upon registration, each participant will receive login information by email. Access to the tools and resources is available throughout the training.
  • Online sessions are organized via a remote conferencing platform, accessed via a login link sent by email to each participant.
  • Participants must have suitable technical equipment, including a computer, a high-speed internet connection, and a valid email address.
  • The CEIPI provides technical assistance to users to identify any malfunctions and provide an acceptable solution as quickly as possible. However, the CEIPI assumes no legal liability in the event of malfunctions of the services used or poor bandwidth/network quality for participants or instructors.

Fees

  • 1 950 € for registrations until 30th April 2026 (early bird).
  • 2 150 € for registrations from 1st May 2026.

(This is a net rate the university not being liable to VAT.)
