By letter of 18 July 2011, the European Parliament (the "EP") informed CEIPI that the latter had been selected for the award of a framework contract relating to external expertise in the field of intellectual property rights. CEIPI won both of the lots into which the call for tender (IP/C/JURI/FWC/2011-001) had been divided:Lot 1 comprising copyright and related rights, and Lot 2 comprising industrial property rights - including patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.
The EP's Committee on Legal Affairs seeks such independent expertise in order to strengthen its knowledge on various issues in the area of IP.
