The Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) of the University of Strasbourg is pleased to organize a conference on the topic “What status for the harmonization of patent law in Europe? Jurisprudences France - EPO: convergences and divergences”. This conference will take place on 13 April 2021 (8h30 to 18h00) online on ZOOM platform.

The event aims to offer a comparative approach between the granting practices of the European Patent Office (EPO) and the French judicial case law. The objective of the comparative approach is to highlight the divergences and convergences of practices and interpretation of legal texts relating to the patentability of inventions: exception, exclusions, conditions of patentability (notion of invention, novelty, inventive step, industrial application).

The approach adopted will allow both, from a fundamental point of view, to analyze the interpretation methods adopted by the different actors, but also, from a more concrete point of view, to draw consequences in terms of “good practices” for patent offices, industrial companies which file patents, and the patent attorneys who accompany them in this process.

This event will be of interest for the socio-economic world (patent engineers from industrial companies, decision-makers, patent attorneys and lawyers), institutional members (members of INPI, of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), as well as academics (students, PhD students, academics).

This event is held under the scientific supervision of Mr. Franck Macrez, Associate Professor at CEIPI, University of Strasbourg and of Mr. Thierry Debled, Adjunct Professor at CEIPI, with an IDEX funding.

Event validated in the framework of continuing vocational training for lawyers and Patent attorneys.
