CEIPI (Center for International Intellectual Property Studies) celebrated its 60th anniversary with a major event, "Les Etats généraux de la propriété intellectuelle", on 15 and 16 October. This landmark anniversary took place in Strasbourg's emblematic venues: the European Parliament and the Palais Universitaire, providing a prestigious setting for reflections on the future of intellectual property.

A first day at the European Parliament

The first day, held in the heart of the European Parliament, brought together world-renowned experts and decision-makers to discuss key issues such as geopolitics, the environment and the economy, approached from the perspective of intellectual property.

In his opening speech, Yann Basire, Director General of CEIPI, underlined the fundamental objective of this event: ‘Under the banner of the Etats généraux de la propriété intellectuelle, we wanted to question the place of intellectual property in our society, in order to offer food for thought on how the subject should evolve. As any specialist in intellectual property knows, the subject is too little known, if not unknown, not only to the general public but also to decision-makers. It is nonetheless indispensable in that it forms a backdrop to many issues’.

The discussions highlighted the crucial importance of intellectual property in a constantly changing world, underlining its central role in major contemporary issues.

A second day at the Palais Universitaire

The celebrations continued at Strasbourg's Palais Universitaire, an emblematic venue of the University of Strasbourg. Michel Deneken, President of the University, opened the day by recalling CEIPI's central role in the intellectual property ecosystem.

Topics covered included public debate, technology, the fight against counterfeiting, and education, offering a broad perspective on the societal implications of intellectual property. The contributions of speakers from a wide range of backgrounds enriched the discussions and laid the foundations for future collaboration.

Alongside the conferences, a gala evening at the Villa Quai Sturm brought together speakers and participants in a convivial atmosphere, celebrating the influence of CEIPI and its community.

CEIPI warmly thanks its speakers, partners and sponsors, including INPI France, EBRAND, Questel, and LexisNexis France, as well as the professional associations ACPI, AIPPI France, ASPI, CNCPI and LES France, for their invaluable support.

With this 60th anniversary, CEIPI is more than ever a center for reflection and action in the service of intellectual property.
