The Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies is moving into the new building "Le CARDO" located on the historic site of the Civil Hospital in the heart of the city of Strasbourg

The Center for International Intellectual Property Studies, a key player in intellectual property training and research at the national, European and international levels, is moving to a new building in the area of the Civil Hospital in Strasbourg as of March 2, 2020.

March 2 will mark the beginning of a new era for CEIPI. After many years at the central campus of the University of Strasbourg, the CEIPI team is about to leave its premises in l'Escarpe and rue Schiller to embark on new adventures at the site of the Civil Hospital. The new building will make it possible to accommodate the centre's training and research activities in an exceptional architectural setting. CEIPI will move into modern, functional and ideally located premises in the heart of Strasbourg in a new building called "Le CARDO". The name, chosen by the University of Strasbourg, derives from the Latin term cardo maximus, which designates the most important north-south axis in the establishment of a new Roman camp. In this case, it is a pivot that symbolically and physically connects the Civil Hospital grounds with the city centre of the Alsatian capital.

At CARDO, CEIPI will have the opportunity to evolve within an environment that is both specialized and multidisciplinary due to the diversity of its occupants: on the one hand, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) plus the European Institute of Enterprise and Intellectual Property (IEEPI) and, on the other hand, Sciences Po Strasbourg as well as the Institute of Preparation for General Administration in Strasbourg (IPAG). This privileged location will encourage interdisciplinary exchanges and will ultimately allow the development of important synergies within the University of Strasbourg. In this context, this new location could be a vector for partnership projects with the other components and institutions present at CARDO in order to implement projects on cross-cutting themes.

The CARDO is spread over a total area of 14,000m2. In total, it comprises 8 amphitheatres, one of which has 300 seats, 26 classrooms fully equipped with the latest technology, a large library area of 1,500m², part of which will house the CEIPI library, comfortably furnished offices, connected training rooms, a cafeteria, an exhibition area as well as other areas for academic and recreation purposes.

In this new perspective, the new site will allow, among other things, to:

  • make access easier by public transport and on foot, especially from the main railway station ;
  • welcome our employees, users and partners in optimal conditions;
  • enrich the user experience, in particular through the layout and comfort of spaces that integrate technologies for educational purposes;
  • improve the quality of working life for our employees and, consequently, the quality of the services provided;
  • develop and maintain excellent relations with structures in other fields of competence.

This move marks an investment for the future of CEIPI within the University of Strasbourg and a key step in the reinforcement of its main strategic axes: training, research and international influence.

CEIPI's specialized library moved on February 11 and 12 and will open its doors at the same time as the other CEIPI services which will move from February 24 to 28, 2020. This mobilization will result in unavailability of services during this period.

As of March 2, 2020, the entire CEIPI team will be available at the following coordinates:

CEIPI
Bâtiment LE CARDO
7, rue de l'Écarlate
CS 20024
67082 Strasbourg Cedex
