CEIPI honored three times at the ECTA award

ECTA, the European Communities Trade Mark Association, was formed in 1980. ECTA numbers approximately 1.500 members, coming from all the Member States of the European Union with associate members from all over the world.

In order to strengthen the cooperation and exchange with academics, ECTA has decided to grant an Award to an individual who has written an article or an essay of importance for the development of European Trade mark law.

Mr. Yann Basire, Associate Professor at the University of Orléans and member of the Research Department of CEIPI, won, in June 2014, the 1st prize of the annual ECTA award competition in the “professionals” category, for his paper “Why are the trademarks protected? A comparative approach of the questions of the trademark functions in Europe and in Japan

In the “students” category, Mr. Leonardo Machado Pontes, student of the Research Master “European and International Intellectual Property Law”, directed by Mr. Christophe Geiger, won the 2nd prize for his paper “Between Deontology and Economics: a Proper Theory Framework to Understand the European Court of Justice’s Decisions on Exhaustion”.

The third prize in the same category was awarded to Mr. Sylvain Akriche, student of the Research Master for his work on: “3D printing and trademark law in the EU: the scope of protection and its limits”.

CEIPI offers its sincere congratulations to the winners!
