news-16893 Tue, 15 Apr 2025 16:09:14 +0200 New CEIPI diploma! - Master 2 Artificial Intelligence, Digital Technologies and Intellectual Property /de/actualites/news/new-ceipi-diploma-master-2-artificial-intelligence-digital-technologies-and-intellectual-property

Recent generations of artificial intelligence tools –particularly generative models–are significantly transforming all areas of law. Intellectual property (IP) is among the fields most affected. Understanding AI’s impact in this domain requires a solid grasp of the legal frameworks governing digital and algorithmic technologies, as well as technical familiarity with AI systems.

This Master’s programme is designed to meet the growing demand for specialised legal expertise in this rapidly evolving field.

Courses run from October to June and cover various forms of legal protection for AI and its outputs—including copyright, database rights, trademarks, patents, and trade secrets—as well as data rights relevant to model training. The programme also includes a course on the societal challenges posed by AI (such as philosophy, ethics, sociology, economics, fundamental rights, and liability) and a module on the regulatory frameworks governing its use.

A distinctive feature of the programme is a dedicated module providing a technical introduction to AI, featuring numerous application examples and hands-on exercises.

Building on the experience of the University Diploma “Artificial Intelligence & Intellectual Property” created at CEIPI in 2019, this Master’s programme adopts active teaching methods such as group projects, case studies, debates, flipped classrooms, etc.

After two days of intense pleading, the team representing CEIPI won the 10th edition of the Robert Tinlot Moot Court, an international competition dedicated to wine law. Congratulations to Augustine Werck (M2 Intellectual Property Law and International Business, alternating diploma), Matéo Costechareyre (M2 Intellectual Property Law and Valuation of Intangible Assets) and Leopold Buscemi (M2 European and International IP Law) for this victory, which testifies to their expertise and legal eloquence.

The event, held on March 24 and 25 2025 in Reims, brought together students from leading European universities specializing in wine law. After being named best defense team during the eliminatory phases at the University of Reims (Croix-Rouge Campus), the CEIPI team brilliantly pleaded the case in the final, held in the prestigious Council Chamber of the Reims City Hall. Competing against the Bordeaux team, the Strasbourg-based team won over a jury of eminent law and wine professionals, earning the title of competition winner.

This success once again illustrates the excellence of CEIPI students and their mastery of the legal challenges facing the wine industry. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement!

The project “AI-Driven Training System on Product Safety for Professionals - AI4ProSa” aims to contribute to the improvement and updating of the skills of SME professionals, future professionals and teachers in vocational training centers with regard to the requirements and obligations established by the European Union in the field of product safety. This project will help them acquire new skills and enable them to integrate the advantages of generative artificial intelligence (AI) into their training and work.

During the implementation of the project, an AI-based generative assistant will be developed to establish and execute a personalized training plan on product safety for the EU market. This AI-based generative assistant will be disseminated through training activities in Spain, the Czech Republic and Germany. The project is aimed at professionals in companies, mainly SMEs, that market consumer goods in the EU, but also at students of educational science and vocational training.

CEIPI’s contribution to the project is to ensure that the AI tutor respects the ethical principles of artificial intelligence by raising awareness of these issues and ensuring the application of the EU regulatory framework to the tutor developed as part of the product safety regulation project.

The project is being carried out under the scientific coordination of Prof. Jean-Marc Deltorn, Professor at CEIPI, and Ms Elodie Migliore, PhD student at CEIPI, who is focusing her research on the intersection of AI and intellectual property law.

Funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, the project began in December 2024 and will run until May 2027.

news-16727 Thu, 06 Feb 2025 14:17:53 +0100 Publication of “Friends et le droit ”, the first volume of the CEIPI's “Hors-Séries” /de/actualites/news/publication-de-friends-et-le-droit-premier-volume-des-hors-series-du-ceipi We are pleased to announce the publication of “Friends et le droit ”, the first volume of the CEIPI's “Hors-Séries”.

Who doesn't know the series Friends?

American sitcom from the 1990s, Friends tells the humorous story of the daily lives of a group of friends - some of them next-door neighbors - and their emotional and professional lives in New York. The series was an instant hit, as were its theme songs, which became a recognizable hit from the very first notes!

What young man hasn't identified with Joey (played by Matt LeBlanc), a failed comedian and philanderer, but eternal jokester and loyal friend, with Ross (played by David Schwimmer), the clumsy but endearing paleontologist recognized by his peers - or with the mysterious Chandler (played by the late Matthew Perry), whose sarcastic humor is matched only by his deep sensitivity?

What young woman hasn't recognized herself in the role of Monica (played by Courtney Cox), Ross's clean-cut chef and little sister, or Phoebe (played by Lisa Kudrow), an extravagant masseuse and musician, or Rachel (played by Jennifer Aniston), a naive daddy's girl who eventually builds a career in fashion ... and with whom Ross is secretly in love?

But this sitcom, which aired in France between 1996 and 2005, also found another audience : lawyers! Leading the “Intellectual Property and Pop-Culture” movement since 2020, Yann Basire, Clotilde Biron and Jérôme Sujkowski, both founders of ALLY Avocats, chose to examine the legal dimension of the Friends series as part of a symposium organized on December 14, 2023 at the Grand Rex (Paris), with the support of Novagraaf and Gilliot Avocat.

This book is a follow-up to that event.

La propriété intellectuelle au service de la créativité, de l’innovation et du développement durablede l’espace OAPI. La contribution de l’accord de Bangui de 2015

The Bangui Agreement and its ten Annexes were revised in Bamako on December 14, 2015. To contribute to the effective application of the normative corpus shared by its seventeen member states, OAPI and its partners have encouraged the publication of an Annotated Code of OAPI Law.

As an extension of this awareness-raising initiative, a symposium entitled “Intellectual property at the service of creation, innovation and development: the contribution of the Bangui Agreement”, jointly organized by the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), France's Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle, the Centre d'Études Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle (CEIPI) and the University of Yaoundé II.

In view of the large number of participants, the diversity of the speakers and the wide range of issues addressed, this major scientific event provided an opportunity to discuss, from both a theoretical and practical point of view, the challenges and prospects of OAPI legislation in the current international legal and technological context.

This book brings together the essential contributions of the specialists who took part in this event. It explores the contribution of the Bangui Act of 2015 to the establishment of a common market through intellectual property, looking in particular at the powers of the OAPI, the delimitation of the common market and the free movement of goods, while at the same time comparing it with current issues such as public health, with the problem of access to medicines, sustainable development, with green innovation and respect for biodiversity; digital challenges, with, in particular, artificial intelligence, platforms and NFTs; and, of course, the issue of dispute resolution, with, in particular, the unavoidable subjects of jurisdictional competence, the value of a supranational jurisdiction and the usefulness of a mediation center.

news-16609 Fri, 20 Dec 2024 16:00:24 +0100 A look back at 2024 /de/actualites/news/retour-sur-lannee-2024 The year 2024 was particularly significant with the celebration of CEIPI's 60th anniversary.

Since its creation, CEIPI has continued to establish itself as a major player in intellectual property training and research, in the service of innovation and progress. This year's jubilee celebrations, marked by the organisation of the Etats généraux de la propriété intellectuelle, provided a prestigious framework for reflection on the future and the challenges ahead in this field.

CEIPI has pursued its development and its objectives by strengthening its teaching programmes, adapted to contemporary and future issues, by carrying out ambitious research activities, by organising seminars and conferences providing food for thought on current and future intellectual property issues, and finally, by developing national and international collaborations, thus consolidating our influence on a global scale.

These achievements would not have been possible without the invaluable commitment of the entire CEIPI community. We would like to salute our students and graduates, who embody the success of our courses and are our best ambassadors, as well as our teachers and lecturers, whose expertise nurtures CEIPI's academic excellence on a daily basis. We would also like to express our gratitude to our partners, whose support is essential to the Centre's development, and to our staff and teams, whose professionalism and commitment contribute every day to the success of our institution.

To conclude this very special year for the Centre, we are delighted to share with you our new institutional video.

To our entire community - students, graduates, teachers, researchers, partners and collaborators - we extend our sincerest thanks for your trust and invaluable contribution over the past 60 years. Together, we will continue to write the future of CEIPI and to promote intellectual property.

CEIPI will be closed from the evening of 20 December to 6 January.

We wish you a very happy festive season. See you in 2025!

news-16572 Fri, 06 Dec 2024 13:34:28 +0100 A look back at CEIPI's 60th anniversary /de/actualites/news/retour-sur-les-60-ans-du-ceipi CEIPI (Center for International Intellectual Property Studies) celebrated its 60th anniversary with a major event, "Les Etats généraux de la propriété intellectuelle", on 15 and 16 October. This landmark anniversary took place in Strasbourg's emblematic venues: the European Parliament and the Palais Universitaire, providing a prestigious setting for reflections on the future of intellectual property.

A first day at the European Parliament

The first day, held in the heart of the European Parliament, brought together world-renowned experts and decision-makers to discuss key issues such as geopolitics, the environment and the economy, approached from the perspective of intellectual property.

In his opening speech, Yann Basire, Director General of CEIPI, underlined the fundamental objective of this event: ‘Under the banner of the Etats généraux de la propriété intellectuelle, we wanted to question the place of intellectual property in our society, in order to offer food for thought on how the subject should evolve. As any specialist in intellectual property knows, the subject is too little known, if not unknown, not only to the general public but also to decision-makers. It is nonetheless indispensable in that it forms a backdrop to many issues’.

The discussions highlighted the crucial importance of intellectual property in a constantly changing world, underlining its central role in major contemporary issues.

A second day at the Palais Universitaire

The celebrations continued at Strasbourg's Palais Universitaire, an emblematic venue of the University of Strasbourg. Michel Deneken, President of the University, opened the day by recalling CEIPI's central role in the intellectual property ecosystem.

Topics covered included public debate, technology, the fight against counterfeiting, and education, offering a broad perspective on the societal implications of intellectual property. The contributions of speakers from a wide range of backgrounds enriched the discussions and laid the foundations for future collaboration.

Alongside the conferences, a gala evening at the Villa Quai Sturm brought together speakers and participants in a convivial atmosphere, celebrating the influence of CEIPI and its community.

CEIPI warmly thanks its speakers, partners and sponsors, including INPI France, EBRAND, Questel, and LexisNexis France, as well as the professional associations ACPI, AIPPI France, ASPI, CNCPI and LES France, for their invaluable support.

With this 60th anniversary, CEIPI is more than ever a center for reflection and action in the service of intellectual property.
