Le Centre d’études internationales de la propriété intellectuelle a organisé, en partenariat avec les membres du réseau EIPIN et le Spangenberg Center for Law, Technology & the Arts (Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Cleveland, USA), le 17ème congrès EIPIN, du 28 au 30 janvier 2016, au Palais universitaire à Strasbourg. Le thème du congrès a porté sur « La propriété intellectuelle et le pouvoir judiciaire ».
L’European Intellectual Property Institutes Network (EIPIN) a été fondé en 1999 et représente le réseau des principaux instituts de recherche et d’enseignement en propriété intellectuelle en Europe. Les membres du réseau EIPIN sont : Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute (Université de Londres), Magister Lucentinus (Université d’Alicante), Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) - Université d’Augsbourg et l’Institut Max Planck de la Competition et l’Innovation à Munich, Advanced Master in Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (LLM/MSc) - Université de Maastricht et le CEIPI.
L’objectif du congrès a été d’étudier le rôle de la magistrature dans l'élaboration et la mise en œuvre du droit de la propriété intellectuelle, de comparer la façon dont la propriété intellectuelle est utilisée dans les différents systèmes judiciaires, que ce soit dans les tribunaux généraux, des tribunaux spécialisés, ainsi que dans les tribunaux non-spécialisés en propriété intellectuelle et de tirer ainsi des conclusions sur la façon idéale de concevoir les tribunaux à l'avenir afin qu'ils puissent traiter la propriété intellectuelle de manière équilibrée et plus efficace.
Le Congrès de Strasbourg a réuni un large panel de grands spécialistes de la question – universitaires, magistrats, institutionnels – et a généré des groupes de travail estudiantins sur les questions soulevées par les différents intervenants.

Les actes du congrès seront publiés et donneront lieu à un ouvrage dans la collection EIPIN chez Edward Elgar sous la direction de Christophe Geiger, Craig Nard et Xavier Seuba.
